The purpose of oil is not to provide the animal with additional energy, but to balance the fatty acids. Meat from conventional factory farming has a very high proportion of omega-6 fatty acids. These have a pro-inflammatory effect in the body. At the same time, it is often deficient in omega-3 fatty acids, which are anti-inflammatory and play important roles in health and well-being. Targeted supplementation with specific oils can correct this imbalance between omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids and thus improve the fatty acid profile of the diet.
Oils are an essential part of a balanced BARF diet. A beautiful, shiny coat can be promoted by administering oils.
