Gesunde ErnĂ€hrung fĂŒr Welpen
The idea that puppies need special food comes primarily from the pet food industry. Basically, puppies are fed similarly to adult dogs â only more often (3-4 times a day) and in larger quantities (about 4-6% of their body weight).
Puppies are usually given to their new owners at 8-9 weeks old. If they were already being fed a raw diet by the breeder, it's best to ask for a feeding plan.
If the puppies have been fed commercial food and are now to be switched to BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food), this is usually not a problem. At this age, their digestive system adapts quickly.
Puppies need plenty of calcium. This is found, for example, in bones and cartilage. It's important that the bone is either large enough so the puppy can't choke on it, or that it's finely ground. Soft bones, such as calf bones, are particularly suitable. Cow udder also contains a lot of calcium.
