The single-celled freshwater plant Chlorella is a valuable green algae and one of the most nutrient-rich plants known. It supplies the animal's body with 19 amino acids and approximately 60-70% high-quality, bound proteins.

Chlorella's specialty is its ability to bind substances. Its high chlorophyll content is thought to be primarily responsible for this. It is assumed that the numerous positive treatment results are partly due to this binding capacity. Undesirable substances bound to the algae could therefore be excreted along with the chlorella. In naturopathic practice, chlorella is frequently used for detoxification.
One of the best properties of chlorella is its strong odor-neutralizing effect:
For animals that smell through their skin or mouth without any medical cause, Chlorella can be a worthwhile alternative to commercially available chlorophyll pastes.
Chlorella also provides minerals and vitamins. However, its iodine content is negligible, as chlorella, unlike seaweed, is a freshwater organism. Instead, it is particularly rich in potassium and magnesium. The iron it contains is highly bioavailable.
With regard to vitamins, the content of B vitamins (B6, B9 and especially folic acid and B12 in a highly bioavailable form) is particularly noteworthy.
Vitamin B12 plays an important role in blood formation, cell division (wound healing), methionine/homocysteine metabolism, the function of the nervous system and DNA replication.
Vitamin B12 deficiency primarily affects animals fed low-quality feed and those on a vegan diet. Folic acid is needed, for example, in cases of inflammation of the small intestine.
We give our dogs Chlorella when they seem tired and listless for no apparent reason, because Chlorella is known to bind heavy metals and eliminate them from the body.
